The Liberal Plan for Canadian Forces Aviation

Bwahahah!   Its the old joke with a kernel of truth.  Under Liberals the Canadian Forces would be back to sticks, canoes, and paper airplanes.   Liberals have promised to cancel the F-35 stealth fighters in favor of what?

Watch the test flight of the Liberal's new air force.

Joking aside, geeks like this are close to my heart.  Well done gentlemen.

Now this is a positive ad.

Governor Chris Christie is running radio ads in Illinois, Obama's home state, to lure businesses to New Jersey.

Wow.  You've got to admire Chris Christie.  Its a no nonsense, straight up ad that just delivers the plain truth to the audience.  No gimmicks.  No snarkiness.  It just says 'Hi, we have low taxes, low red tape, and its going to stay that way.  Come on over'

Nice.

A Sunday Poem: The Gods of the Copybook Headings

Glenn Beck reads Literary Nobel Laureate Joseph Rudyard Kiplings The Gods of the Copybook Headings.

The Gods of the Copybook Headings
Children learn their letters by copying them.  Copybooks are workbooks that have headings at the top for children to copy.  Those headings were always simple truths.

Kipling used 'The Gods of the Copybook Headings' as a stand in for simple truth.  Truths like Gravity, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, and the Strong and Weak Nuclear forces are the metaphorical Gods.  Beck and Kipling himself would add God in there but the deep meaning is Truth.

As children often dislike copying the headers, many people often dislike the truth.

Rudyard Kipling

The Gods of the Copybook Headings

1919

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I Make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market-Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market-Place.
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings.
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Heading said:
"Stick to the Devil you know."
"The Wages of Sin is Death."
"If you don't work you die."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said:
The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said:
"If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew,
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four --
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

             *   *   *   *   *

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man --
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began --
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire --
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

How Spin Assassin Lost the Election

Oh Noooooes!

Well folks, it looks like I have single handedly delivered the country to the Socialist Coalition of Losers.  LOL  Isn't personal reponsibility a drag?

First I decided to do my part for the great effort, by capturing a former Liberal Finance Minister defending corporate tax cuts.  This was my first video capture and my first upload to Youtube.

Then I caught a good debate about corporate tax cuts with Monte Solberg.  I even added a little text.  Quite a brakthrough for a novice.

The next day I had a good laugh at Iggy popping off at the podium.  I took the video from Steven Taylor's blog and performed my first edit.  I cut Howard Dean's itinerary from his speech and added Iggy's own question to his spaztic yessing.  Then I laughed some more.

I'm still laughing.  I made a joke video about a politician for the internet.  What a scandal.  My freinds shared it on Facebook and we all had a good laugh.  It turns out my 3rd video ever was picked up by the CPC war room and profesionally made into an attack add.  Wooops!

I guess they agree because I can't find the add at the moment.  You probably remember it anyway.

Here is my 3rd video of all time.  Its the video where I taught myself to edit movies.

LOL the ultimate yes man.

See the resemblance?  hahaha  Thanks guys, but I'm not the only voter out there.  You certainly make learning fun.  For the record, I thought the pooping puffin was hilarious.  It's what I'd expect from myself, not from you.  I can laugh at the pooping puffin and still see it as a mistake.  Stepping out of yourself and seeing something from another persons perspective is an essential skill in politics.

I basically agree with these conservative bloggers:
Gerry Nicholls
Alberta Ardvark
Kieth Beardsley
Prairie Tory
The Phontom Observer
Freedom is My Nationality

Some of those guys hate the CPC but not all of them and they have a point.  Loyal supporters endorsed your ad.  (Dr Roy, Christian Conservative)  I'll guess the silent majority also had a chuckle before they forgot all about it.  I passed the ad along myself on Facebook.  Coworkers inevitably made a sexual link to Iggy's emphatic yessing.  All very funny.

The thing is the 'hands firmly on the wheel, stay the course, steady as she goes' reasoning for voters to keep the incumbent doesn't fit prankish raspberry type ads.  I love them, but lets leave the crass humour to me okay?

I don't represent the CPC, but they represent us.  I'm not paid by anyone (its the other way around).  Nothing I do or say can reasonably harm the CPC.  While the enemy swats and flails at fly's like me, you guys have to bring the big game.

On the bright side.  The election is still months away unless Jack or Iggy caves.  15% of Canadians aren't even paying attention.  Nobody will care about this 2 or 3 months down the road.  I know I won't.  -And look Iggy is gaffeing away right now, and CTV is providing cover.

Another Corporate Tax Debate

Spin Assassin presents another added value debate on Corporate Tax Cuts with Amanda Lang and a CAW "economist."

Link

Liberals to Canadians: Take a Hike!

The Liberals, the Bloc, and the NDP, also known as the Coalition, want to raise taxes.  These "Tax Cuts" they are screaming about were actually passed in 2007 with their help.  There will be no Corporate Tax Cuts in the next budget.  The latest Tory Tax Cut took affect this month.

Liberals plan to raise corporate taxes back to 18%.  The NDP wants to go higher and the Bloc is happy to extort whatever it can.  They want the Conservative Budget to include new higher taxes or face an election.

We will go to the polls.  Socialists shall not raise taxes or implement new entitlements while this government has the writ.

Here are some things I expect a Coalition to impose:
  • Raise corporate taxes.  Those are taxes on your RRSP, TFSA, pensions, and other investments.
  • Raise the GST.  Remember their promises.  Remember their whining when it was cut.  How many thousands has the GST cut saved you over time?  $1000?  $2000?  $3000?
  • Abolish the TFSA
  • Return of the Green Shift and a Carbon Tax.
  • A National Childcare Service.  A new ever-expanding government behemoth to compete with current small businesses.  Comes complete with a new Union ready to take your life hostage.
  • Canadians will become 'have-nots' just like McDonkey's Ontario.
Lets not just stop the insanity.  Lets not even start it.  Lets kick the Socialist Coalition to the curb.  Its long overdue.

Bye Ed

So long Ed Stelmach.

My strongest feeling towards our Premier is sympathy.  This didn't start today.  I always felt pity for Ed.  He just doesn't belong there.  I think he's a good man that tried to do the right things.  Those things were exposed as wrong.  When the recession hit Alberta was caught off guard with a job killing royalty regime and a deficit among other problems.

I've seen first hand how stupid taxes kill jobs and small businesses.  Progressive idea's seem so good in boom times, but at the end you get the usual progressive ills like deficits.  I blame Ed but it wasn't just Ed.  It was the whole team; the whole party.  The whole party should pay.

We know they are progressives now.  They have been in power too long.  They are entitled, so they think.  Whatever they might do to improve the economy in a rear-guard action is right an proper, but what is to stop them from slipping back to progressive/socialist schemes once the economy takes off?  Nothing.

I'm sorry Ed and the rest of the PC's.  Picking on you guys feels like kicking a puppy.  I would stamp the life out of a snake, but you guys aren't snakes.  You lost your way and I know where you can find it: in Opposition to a Wild Rose Alliance Government.  Then maybe we'll get some competition for the best policies for Albertans.

So long Ed.  It wasn't your fault, I know.  This is much bigger than you or your feelings.  We just can't pick our leaders out of sympathy.  May I suggest you go into charity?  You could do a lot of good work for the Cancer Society or some noble cause where you would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your service.

Alex

Update:  Turns out Ed has given himself a 1 million dollar parting gift from the tax payer.  I take it back.  Get lost Ed and take your blasted PCs with you!

Monte Solberg Explains Tax Cuts to Socialists

They don't get it.  The Liberal flounders between arguments from the real Socialists and the real Conservatives.

This is a good start.  The Conservatives had better polish up on the fundamentals of economics and tax cuts because it will be tested in debate.  This is an argument we win when in full command of the subject.

Monte Solberg Explains Tax Cuts to Socialists

I'm pleased that Power and Politics made this segment called The Firing Line.  It comes complete with a bulls eye logo and the sound of cheesy gunfire.  Kudos.  The cloud over free speech since the Tuscon shooting has been lifted.  The Firing Line fits right in here at Spin Assassin.

Former Liberal Finance Minister Defends Corporate Tax Cuts

John Manley on Power and Politics discusses the need for Stephen Harper's Corporate Tax Cuts.  He opposes the Liberal Party's imbecilic proposition to end the legislated tax cuts and calls provincial Capital Taxes the stupidest of them all.  Of course Alberta doesn't have Capital Taxes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2Q2LkufHCA

Its nice to see one of the old guard disputing Iggy.  I've never had much love for the Liberal Party but John Manley was always respectable.  He was also Finance Minister for a time and is now involved with the Council of Chief Executives.  Manley is just the man to talk sense into those free market Liberals who still cling to the tired old brand.

Iggy's strategy seems to be to out-socialize the socialists, and out-fiscal-conservative the Conservatives.  Liberals have never had to live up to election promises in the past so they can afford to be nonsensical.  They have always stood for nothing at all except whatever seems like it will land them a vote.  Hopefully this strategy leaves them with no seats at all.  Its exactly how many they deserve.

Note:  This is my first video.  I hope to bring you many more since I think I prefer video to text.  Enjoy!

Free Thinking Film Society makes Iran Sad

Well well.  Way to go Free Thinking Film Society!  You are getting the islamofascists in Iran pretty angry.  Get it all on film if you can.

The torch of freedom has been discarded by the left.  They didn't drop it.  They didn't lose it or forget it.  They intentionally discarded it.  Their attempts to be the ultimate high minded intellectuals has them blindly supporting religious fanatics and oppressive regimes.

Now its the conservatives who pick up the cast off torch of freedom.  We are the champions of Liberty and Human Rights.  We are the ones standing up to oppression and calling things as they are even if some find the truth offensive.

A simple showing of a movie in a public building in Ottawa has drawn threats from extremists reports Sara Boesveld in the National Post.  No its not Palin crazed Tea Party grannies.  These people don't want Iran shown in a poor light.  Presumably when they finally justify a regime change its better for it to be a big surprise.  A big surprise.  Pow!

It turns out the Iranian Embassy was leaning on the National Archives to shut it down and they did.  They take orders from Iran now, complete with threats of violent protests in our capital?   Amazing.

Heritage Minister James Moore tweeted: "I am disappointed that Library & Archives Canada chose not to show the film tonight due to threats of violence.  The Iranian Embassy will not dictate to the Government of Canada which films will or will not be shown in Canada."

Agreed Mr. Minister except that is exactly what they did.  I recommend that the CBC be ordered to show the documentary Iranium on nation wide prime time.  That is what the CBC is for right?  It stands up for Canada while corporate interests would simply be bought off.  Isn't that their line?  Isn't that what a billion dollars a year buys us at the very least?  The Passionate Eye seems appropriate, but giving the Free Thinking Film Society its own show would be even better.  I would watch it every week like a clock and it would greatly  improve my opinion of the station.   Something tells me they will have better luck with SUNTV.

UPDATE:  The show must go on.  The National Archives has been directed to show the film per James Moore and Jason Kenny.  Well done Ministers!
UPDATE 2:  Both CBC and CTV have reported the issue.  Thank you very much. ( h/t Dr.Roy )

Better off than 5 years ago: The TFSA

Micheal Ignatieff is asking Canadians "are you better off than you were 5 years ago?"

Of course things are better for just about everybody.  Most people take a personal interest in their own well being.  Its only natural that in a society that still values personal responsibility things would get better for most of those people.

Canadians can take credit themselves for their hard work, luck and perseverance.  Individual success does not come because of government but the skillful stewardship of this country's economy in the last 5 years is a key factor in that success.

One of the greatest tools for our success was given to us by Jim Flaherty and the Conservative Government is the Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA).  It allows a person to put away money after taxes that are never taxable again.  Any returns your money earns while inside the TFSA is yours too keep.  All of it.

Normally, any time you make any kind of income the tax man takes a cut.  The gains you make in a TFSA are not taxed.  Its yours and you can withdraw it any time.  You don't have to wait until you retire.

The amount you can put in a TFSA is $5,000 a year.  The program was started in 2009 and that means we can each stuff $15,000 into a TFSA in total.  You can make any kind of account into a TFSA.  Turn it into an investment account and watch your profits compound monthly just like a credit card.  This time you are the visa and the tax man has to keep his pudgy fingers off your returns.

There's a discussion about which is better the RRSP or the TFSA.  This is a different question than asking which investment a person should make.  A person should make both, because they will need to save for retirement and save money for other large purchases too.    The advantage to the RRSP is that the money you put there is all before taxes.  Your RRSP is lent out into the economy and goes to work until its your turn to retire.  Its a very good thing, however you still have to pay taxes on it once you retire.  The idea being that retirees have a far lower tax bracket than a working person.

The TFSA is superior because of the potential to make a lot more money.  It may use after tax money to do it, but once the money is in there its never taxed again no matter how much it grows.  You can pull it out any time to buy that car or house or vacation.

Brilliant.

The only criticism you can level at the TFSA is that people have been slow to get into it.  Its okay.  Its never too late, its just that people have missed out on all that growth.  Its a free country still and missing out is your right and responsibility.  Only a Liberal could complain that the government spent too much telling people about it and that not enough was spent.  Nope.  The right amount was spent irregardless of what any Liberal windbag thinks.  I watched some talking head on CBC give financial advice today and they didn't say a word about the TFSA.  They just kept pushing the RRSP.  Makes me wonder if Liberals would turf the TFSA all together.

I'm not a financial guru so check it all out for yourself.  What I do know is that I'm making about 10% on the money I saved so far and its all mine.  Not only am I saving for some major purchase, I'm simultaneously putting money into the economy.  The only regret I have is that I couldn't save even more to have made even more.  If you haven't got a TFSA already, do yourself a favor and get one.  There is more growth to be had, a lot more.  Now is the time.

That is the kind of work a government should be doing, not thinking up stupid ways to blow the money they took from me.

Yes, Mr. Opposition Leader, we are indeed better off than we were 5 years ago.  We are better off individually and collectively, and the TFSA is a perfect example of that.  Its absolutely certain that had we instead been under a Liberal regime we would have suffered under a Green Shift during the worst recession anyone could remember.  There would be no TFSA and the recession would have been so much deeper and the deficit so much larger.  This is to say nothing of the instability, insanity and political chaos a socialist/separatist coalition would have caused while somehow coherently steering us through this past recession.   Who even knows if Canada would have still existed if the Coalition seized power.  What a nightmare Mr. Harper has saved us from.

A reasonable person could only conclude that yes we are much much better off now than we have ever been.  Thank you honourable Jim Flaherty and the Conservative Party of Canada.
