Popular Science Gets It Wrong On Fracking

Popular Science did a myth busting article about Fracking.  They got most of it right but the two cases where they busted myths were actually wrong.  Publishing being what it is you simply can't produce an article called "Is Fracking Safe?  The Top 10 Claims about Natural Gas Drilling" and then say each and every claim is true.  One look at the comments shows why a know nothing editor would think this way.

They quote the esteemed Senator Inhofe in Claim #4.

"[There's] never been one case -documented case- of groundwater contamination in the history of the thousands and thousands of hydraulic fracturing [wells]"
The Senator may have been talking specifically about his own state because its actually in the millions of wells.  It has been done safely for decades in North America.  The environmentalist issue with Fracking is a akin to being anti glass because glass can be sharp, except that in this analogy glass never was broken even once.

Popular Science decided the Senator is incorrect because of cases of surface spills.  I'm sorry a spill is not fracking.  You can't say a spill at the surface has anything to do with the actual fracking.  If that were true then you would have to blame the Exxon Valdez spill on fracking as well.  Yes that oil too was produced from wells that were fracked.

Spills happen.  Its same as spilling milk in your kitchen.  You could blame yourself or you could try and trace it back to fracking somehow.  Every industrial process faces the risk of a spill.  Even a maple syrup spill can contaminate ground water in the right circumstance.

The false claim that fracking contaminates drinking water is easily disproved.  Environmentalists think that fracking is the problem.  They think, or at least want you to think, that there is some new thing about fracking other than the ability to do it along the length of horizontal section of a wellbore.

To their credit Popular Science goes on to state that:
"The idea stressed by fracking critics that deep-injected fluids will migrate into groundwater is mostly false. Basic geology prevents such contamination from starting below ground. A fracture caused by the drilling process would have to extend through the several thousand feet of rock that separate deep shale gas deposits from freshwater aquifers. According to geologist Gary Lash of the State University of New York at Fredonia, the intervening layers of rock have distinct mechanical properties that would prevent the fissures from expanding a mile or more toward the surface. It would be like stacking a dozen bricks on top of each other, he says, and expecting a crack in the bottom brick to extend all the way to the top one. What's more, the fracking fluid itself, thickened with additives, is too dense to ascend upward through such a channel.
Its a great explanation.  Its like stepping on thin ice.  The pressure on your foot causes fine cracks to shoot off throughout the ice.  Environmentalists imagine that somehow the cracks in the ice would propagate into the surrounding shore or even chunks of ice lying on top of the ice that you've cracked.

How about taking a sledge hammer to the sidewalk outside?  The sidewalk would crack on the first strike, but those cracks don't continue into the ground and right up the side of your house.  Its the same with fracking except we are talking about cracks deeper than Mount Assiniboine is tall.  You are now smarter than David Suzuki.

The other claim is # 7 and it concerns a botched cement job.  Here is the picture they show in Popular Science.  (not to scale!)

The red line shows the path of methane into ground water as a result of a poor cement job.  The operating company is liable for sloppy work in the same way a construction company is liable for an unsafe bridge.  Something similar happened in the BP disaster a couple of years ago.  Again it has nothing at all to do with fracking.

This problem is the result of sloppy drilling.  A poorly cemented well is at risk if the well is fracked or not.  These drilling techniques have been in use for a century.  There is no excuse and no tolerance for this kind of screw up which is completely independent of fracking.

The same problem can occur when drilling for Hydrocarbons, Uranium, Potash, water, or even Geo-Thermal energy.  David Suzuki supports Geo-thermal and therefore Suzuki is fine with the minuscule risk of a botched well construction.

If you like winning arguments with brainless leftard eco-nuts, fracking is the subject for you.  Every one of their objections to fracking can only be argued from the point of ignorance.

I am not paid to tell you any of this.  I do it because I want my country to grow and prosper.  My child should have the same optimistic and bountiful future that we all were blessed with.

Right now, I can look out my kitchen window and see a drilling rig gloriously steaming away in the brisk winter sunshine.  I get nothing from my local drilling rig other than a deep sense of satisfaction.  Let's replace NIMBY with PIMBY: Please In My Back Yard.  Eastern provinces have access to shale gas as well.  While there is no shortage of gas I still want to spread this bounty far and wide.

Oil is found in the minds of men.  Find the treasure in your mind.

A Threat To The Species

The amount of scientific and industrial illiteracy in so-called mainstream media is staggering some times.

Take CBC for example.  Their best news program is the Lang and O'Leary Exchange.  I watch it regularly as they cover stories that are actually important and O'Leary is always entertaining.

Not too long ago Dianne Buckner was hosting for Amanda Lang and she got into it Kevin O'Leary about climate change once again.  It was the standard argument, but at one point Buckner stated that climate change was a "threat to the species!"

Hold on.  How so?  Dianne Buckner is a very smart cookie.  How does she go and say something ridiculous on air like that and get away with it?  The Human Species survived the Ice Ages with nothing more than sticks and pelts.  Civilization flourished during the Roman Warm Period and at least the Arabs did well during the Medieval Climate Optimum. It was warmer than today in both instances.  How is climate change in either direction going to threaten our species?

She has obviously had this idea drilled into her mind over several years.  Its not just her either.  People hear nonsense like climate change is a threat to humanity and don't think twice.  This is the product of social engineering.  People have been socially engineered to except it as dogma and call people who don't agree all sorts of names. The names hurt far less than the fact that smart people will not apply a tiny bit of logic to their accepted wisdom.

Its a dangerous thing too.  Think of the evil done in the name of national security.  How about the evil done in the name of God?  Incredible evil can be done in the name of the species.  Now here we have environmentalists training smart people to think that their destructive tax and obstruction schemes are for the good of the species.  Nuts.

People need to be challenged on these nonsense axioms.  I recommend doing so gently.  Nobody likes to find out they are being stupid.  Reserve your contempt for the people who are terminally so.

Noble Cause Corruption and Greenmail

I smell another great documentary in the making.  Phellim McAleer writes in the New York Post that Chevron is taking the Eco-nuts behind the movie 'Crude' to court for civil-racketeering.  It's been called "greenmail".

Apparently Chevron secured a court order for some 500 hours of cutting room footage from this movie.  The filmmakers have been caught boasting about intimidating and humiliating judges.  They are also seen complaining about the lack of pollution and devising schemes to exaggerate the extent of pollution in Ecuador.

The environmentalists are also accused of forging signatures on false reports, paying experts to allow them to ghost write reports, and bribing judges outright.

James Delingpole is also writing about the green extortion racket surrounding this movie.  He touches on the fascinating topic of what he calls Noble Cause Corruption.  It is the answer to the question of why so many people sacrifice their own integrity in telling environmental lies.  They tell themselves that their cause is 'The Greatest Threat Known To Mankind' thus excusing them from telling the truth and any other ethical or moral considerations.

I've noticed this myself, though I called it Social Engineering License.  Its like poetic license.  They have special permission due to the importance of their cause to bend and stretch the truth.  The rest of us just aren't smart enough to see the danger so its ok for them make up whatever kind of fire and brimstone story that all the dummies will understand.

It even works on some of those dummies.  They can't conceive that an environmentalist would lie to them.  Somehow these eco-nuts are pure and incorruptible.  Enviro-activists are supposedly free of the human frailties that have corrupted police, teachers, politicians, clergy, scout leaders, judges, hockey coaches, you name it.  All of these have had tragic episodes of misplaced trust, and yet its unbelievable that eco-nuts would do something as 'harmless' as lie about the 'enemies of all life?'

Here now we have an example of just that.  In the same spirit as Climategate and Gasland we have another eco-fraud to the tune of $19 billion.  I'm going to enjoy this case.

Redford's Keystone messaging could lead to failure for Alberta

Tom Harris has a message for Alberta Premiere Allison Redford in his article: Smart messaging needed to avoid pipeline lobbying failure.  Harris laments Alberta's Keystone pipeline messaging saying "a supposedly conservative government feeds the fire that threatens to destroy the province’s, and indeed the country’s, main source of wealth, their vast hydrocarbon resources" and of Allison Redford that "her approach is doomed to failure."

The article identifies Harris as the Executive Director of the International Climate Science Coalition, and an advisor to the Frontier Centre for Public Policy.  He's put together an excellent well reasoned video you can watch below.

(h/t WUWT)

What's wrong with preaching nonsense to the nonsensical?  Why not serve gobbleygook  to the gook gobblers?  Well because its a waste of time.

Pandering to the ridiculous only reinforces it.  It's better to appeal to higher reasoning than to stoop to the level of sloganeering battles.  They sloganeer to appeal to the ignorant in the first place.  The antidote to ignorance is clarity on reality, not learning to speak the mongrel noises of the irrational eco-nut.

By trying to appease climate alarmists and using their own nonsensical and incorrect language in a vain effort to win them over Redford is conceding victory.  They don't have a rational reason to oppose Keystone.  Its pure symbolism.  Keystone is a proxy for their larger war.  They don't care if Keystone is better for the environment.  They care about scoring a victory against "big oil."  There is no circumstance where the success of the pipeline will include the symbolic victory they seek.

Eco-nuts are the enemy.

I make a distinction against Eco-nuts and people like us who love the environment.  You can't call yourself Canadian and not be in love with this beautiful land.  We are people who respect the land and work hard in our responsible and bountiful economy.  We are the target audience and we share these values with Americans.

Eco-nuts are lost.  There is nothing we can say to sway them.  Perhaps losing their illogical Keystone battle is the first step to their rediscovery of reason but that is a path they have to walk themselves.  Approving Keystone will help the average person and that is who we need to be speaking to.

Allison Redford will be speaking to the anti-Keystone Brookings Institute in Washington next week.  It will be live streamed but you have to register.

Whatever happens to Keystone will have major political and economic repercussions in Alberta, Canada and the United States.

Misanthropy in Environmentalism

Misanthropy: a hatred of the human race.

Try that word out.  Its here.  Its inside the environmental movement and its dangerous to our health.

Last weekend the misanthropic eco-nut cult held a Blackout Rally in Washington.  Only 5,000 people showed up.  One of them was honest enough to speak his mind to the Light Brigade.

This man wants blackouts.  He wants to get rid of all the roads and all the cars because he thinks they are an existential threat to the planet.  The planet and our civilization cannot co-exist in the minds of many environmentalists.

Not all of them are like that.  The groupies who haven't really thought it through are in there too.  A great many have picked up the misanthropic ques from the leaders and are actively against the human race.

The guy in the video above is not some freak that just showed up.  He is typical.  I've met people like him and debated them.

Usually it starts when someone you just met says something silly like "they should just ban combustion altogether."  An ridiculously untenable statement like that is easily destroyed.  That is when you start getting truth.  They will tell you that the benefit of mankind is not their interest and therefore their argument stands.

"But millions would die of disease and starvation," is a common response to an eco-nut statement.  The misanthrope will invariably respond with: "good.  Mankind is a blight and a scourge on the earth and there are too many of us to begin with."

Bang.  Eco-fascist.  Think about what they actually mean by that.  This is the goal and moral underpinning of the misanthropic eco-nut.  They won't be committing suicide as a member of the human race because they have a dual purpose:
  1. spread misanthropy and
  2. end the human species.
When you get to that point with someone smile.  You've won.  Tell them so.  "Ha! I win!"

Misanthropes are antagonistic to the human race.  They are everyone's enemy including themselves.  They are the enemy of all of your ancestors, all of the descendants of your ancestors, and all of your descendants yet to be born.

There can be no greater cause than the defence of mankind.  There is no moral authority higher than the safety and benefit of mankind.  The continued existence of the human species negates any other considerations.  Mankind's dominance over nature must be upheld by all means we possess else we cannot guarantee our species imperative: to exist.

The only way to accept a misanthropic viewpoint into society would be for the misanthropes to sterilize themselves.  What followers they convert can also choose to voluntarily become sterile.  No one can be involuntarily sterilized or killed to reduce the population.

People think that evolution has stopped.  Instead of evolving better eyes because only people with perfect eyes are left to reproduce, we simply make eye glasses.  Everyone survives thanks to our industrial society.  Hooray!

Evolution doesn't stop in times of plenty.  It begins to experiment with all kinds of plentiful variations.  Some dance and sing.  Others unlock the secrets of the universe.  Each individual is a unique expression of the human genome.  Each one may hold the key to survival when or if the times of plenty come to an end.  Whatever variation of human makes it through the next bottleneck becomes the new human archetype.

Look at David "Dr. Fruit fly" Suzuki talk about overpopulation here (yes those are really his hands).

Videos like that are how progressives become misanthropes.  What is a progressive but a paternalistic self-appointed manager of society.

Presented with the false problem Suzuki gives, progressives and environmentalists take it upon themselves to be the next bottleneck.  A bottleneck is a calamity for a species.  They see it as inevitable and so what else is there for them to do but manage and enforce a decline.

Even if they succeed its totally irresposible to purposefully reduce the population.  Nobody knows what the next real bottleneck is.  If we end up with nothing but metrosexuals can we be sure humanity will survive the next challenge at all?

It's hard to say whether our current downward trajectory is the result of purposeful social engineering taken by progressives to reduce the population and its attendant economy.  It would be nice if Suzuki and people like him would stop thinking about humans as if they were maggots or bacteria.  Do progressives have a hand in making kids more trouble than they are worth to a lot of people?  I think they do.

Either way they hate humanity.  Excommunicated Greenpeace Founder and Doctor of  Ecology Patrick Moore coined the the phrase "Anti-human" to describe misanthropy in environmentalism.  I conclude with a clip of  Dr. Moore explaining anti-human environmentalism.  Its real and its working against your own life.

Of Pipelines and Trains

One of the most glaring examples of environmental foolishness comes from the Keystone XL question. Because the pipeline is stalled for political reasons, oil from the Oil Sands has had to be shipped by train.

I do not consider myself a genius yet people who don't intuitively understand that pipelines are more reliable than cars on a rail make me feel like one. I say 'intuitive' because many people just take one look at a pipeline and know that its better than a train without any need to comment on it or explain it. Too often the mistake of reasonably intelligent people is to assume that other people are also reasonably intelligent.

It should be obvious to any but the severely miseducated among the left that pipelines are:
  1. safer
  2. cheaper
  3. cleaner

Pipelines are Safer

The simplest way to put it is that there are fewer moving parts and therefore fewer things that can go wrong. The pipe is installed, tested, inspected on a regular basis and thats it you've got a pipeline. Anything that can go wrong with a pipeline can also go wrong with a rail line. Mud slides, Earthquakes, sabotage, the risks are all the same.

Tanker cars add another level of complexity to the system. Now you have to worry about mechanical failure of the car at a number of points. The wheels, the axles, brakes, taps, hatches, battens, the scheduling that keeps rails cars from colliding, all of that adds to the risk of potential failure of the system as a whole.

Plenty of people ride trains every single day. Its hard to drive this message home since people have complete trust in trains just as they should. People spills are much worse than oil spills yet they do happen. Since people are discreet units they simply can't be transported by pipe. (duh -but if you could move people by pipe you know it would be superior to rail)

Forgive me if this is a "no brainer" to you but some people really need it spelled out for them. People who can understand the world at a glance just don't become eco-nuts. Let me try to put it differently for their sake.

Most people live in a house with plumbing. You are probably surrounded by pipelines right now. You have pipes for hot water, cold water, rain water, gas, sewage, central air, central vac, even the cables for your electricity are bundled into conduit pipes. Now try to imagine that instead of hot water running through pipes to your shower head in the morning you have a model train in your walls bringing you hot water by the tank.

How well do you suppose that would work? Think it can be done cheaper and as hassle free as your existing network of plumbing? How about your little poop train running under the floors? Are you going to clean it and inspect it constantly, because one mishap means you've got a load of poop where you don't want it.
The Model Railroad Toilet

Pipelines are Cheaper

Pipelines don't require high maintenance for the cars and the tracks and the locomotives. Not to mention the people needed to drive the locomotives, run the rail system and load and unload the liquid cargo. They all need large paychecks and benefits or they will shut the system down on us. Tank cars also crowd the rail system adding even more to the cost of all goods moved by rail.

Don't kid yourself.  They will charge what they have to charge and you are the one who ends up paying.

Fuel costs money and locomotives burn much more fuel than a pump houses. Pump houses are static structures so they can be connected right into the grid.

Pipelines are Cleaner

Along with the cost of fuel mentioned above come the "environmental costs." Its all bullcrap of course. Carbon is not pollution. There is much more rock solid evidence that CO2 is plant food than there is this about this cult of carbon doom that consistently misses its own doomsday predictions. I include this only to show that eco-nuts are internally inconsistent in their eco-nuttery.

The opposition to Keystone is supposed to be about the evil carbon intensity of the Oil Sands. Why would eco-nuts force the necessary transport of oil through a mode of transportation that is more carbon intensive? I haven't even spoken about the increased risk of a spill from all those extra points of contact. It makes no sense.

These people don't know anything about anything. They are easily duped walking talking bags of pure emotion. Reason is a dirty word to these people. They dimly understand that Reason leads to losing the argument so they instinctively will shout, scream, wave silly signs and do anything to avoid discussion.

Approving Keystone

The other day Obama gave his SOTU speech. He spoke about attracting investments in infrastructure, in a so-called "Partnership to Rebuild America." (so what happened to the last push for infrastructure? Didn't get it done?) The Keystone XL pipeline defiantly falls into the infrastructure category. He also claimed to support "modern pipelines to withstand a storm." One hopes this includes storms of eco-bullcrap that have twice wrecked the KXL pipeline already.

Even today Eco-nuts are holding a Blackout Rally in Washington. 5,000 mindless blades of astro-turf were bused in completely unaware of the miracle of affordable internal combustion that made it possible.

Encouragingly media coverage of the event seems sparse. We've seen this movie already. The "legitimate" media as Biden calls it, is firmly in the tank for Obama. The President who can do no wrong shall not be criticized from the right or the left or anywhere. It sets the stage for an approval of KXL because the leftist media complex excels at nothing more than political theater. Even they sorely need the economic good news that approving KXL will bring for the news itself rather than the economic good for its own sake.

UPDATE: Reliable sources on the ground dispute the size of the astro-turf.  Huffpo pegged it at 40,000 but the actuall number is 5,000 shivering morons.  Post has been updated to reflect reality.

Is Obama Planning to Betray his Environmental Base over Keystone XL?

You can’t trust a turncoat.  Even if they betray their own team to help yours, their loyalty will always be suspect.  The traitor can be redeemed of course, but not with a continuing pattern of betrayal.  The Obama administration has shown a pattern of treachery that has every indication of extending to the Keystone XL controversy.

Dealing with Obama’s America is treacherous indeed.  For better or worse Mubarak’s Egypt was a US ally that was summarily cashed in.  Same thing with Gaddafi in Libya.  Contrast this with Russia’s embarrassing loyalty to the murderous Assad regime in Syria.

The rightness or wrongness of those decisions continues to evolve, but the fact remains that the Obama Administration does not place a high value on loyalty.

America’s closer allies like Israel and the United Kingdom have been publicly snubbed as well.  Nevermind little Mexico who gets to deal with Obama's administration supplying assault weapons to drug cartels.

If the United Kingdom is America’s brother, then Canada is America’s wife.  How does the Obama administration treat its wife then?  The decision to reject the Keystone XL pipeline is a backhand smack across the face.

We know they need it.  They know we want to give it to them.  No Brainer.  Instead we get the ultimate expression of ‘spite your face’ politics.  Economically speaking, environmentalists would cut off their nose to spite their face.  This is exactly what the Obama administration did when vetoing the Keystone XL pipeline not just once but twice.

There is no question that these decisions were forced by the powerful environmental lobby.  The façade of environmental concern is completely misleading.  Endangering the  Ogallala aquifer is the excuse for the rejection .  Nebraska’s Ogalalla aquifer is not only criss-crossed by thousands of kilometres of pipelines already, it has oil and gas wells that drilled right though the Ogallala to get to the zones below (and fracture them).  None of this was a concern before and it’s not a concern now except in the case of Keystone.

Bull.  The excuse is bull.  The eco-nuts threatened to pull their ground game for Obama for the next election.  Obama needs them, but just until after November.

The only reason environmentalists want to stop the pipeline is to stop the oil sands and inhibit any devolvement of oil infrastructure.  CO2 from oil is the root of all evil in their earth religion.  For this reason alone were they able to bend a sympathetic Obama to their destructive policies and cancel the Keystone XL.

Quietly we hear that it’s only temporary.  The Keystone pipeline is only delayed until after the election.  Obama even approved the construction of a portion of the Keystone XL pipeline.  (A pipeline to nowhere?)

Obama is going to approve the Keystone XL after the election.  Why after the election?    Approving the pipeline after the election allows Obama to mobilize and use the environmental stooges that make up his base.  After the election he can just betray them, or betray the unionized pipeline workers.  We can't be certian what he'll actually do but we can be sure he's lying to at least one of his special interest groups.

Presidents are limited to 2 terms only.  Obama won’t be facing the voters again.  He just has to make it through this election and he can do whatever he wants.  He can betray anyone he wants.  He’ll say anything to win the election.

It isn’t the first time he has said as much.  When speaking to then Russian President Medvedev, Obama said into a hot mike:

Obama: "This is my last election ... After my election I have more flexibility,"
Medvedev: "I will transmit this information to Vladimir."

They were talking about missile defence.  Obama is planning to betray another ally, likely Poland.

American’s would do well to skip the Obama ambiguity and just go with Mitt Romney.  Mitt Romney said he would approve Keystone on “Day One.” On Keystone XL he also said "I will build that pipeline if I have to myself."   It’s a pretty stark contrast to Obama.

Obama is a treacherous liar.  It looks as though he will betray his own base of environmentalists after the election.  You can’t really be sure though.  The Obama administration encouraged rumours that it will in fact approve the Keystone XL.   What reason is there to believe him?  It only demonstrates what little respect he has for his base of eco-nuts. Are they not paying attention?  (wow they are soooo intelligent)

American's should fire this liar.  Mitt Romney is the guy they can count on.

Celebrating Human Achievement: 8:30 - 9:30 tonight

This year I'm celebrating Human Achievement Hour (HAH).  I am just as much against wasting energy for no reason as I am against forgoing energy use for a silly symbolic gesture.   I won't be wasting any energy during Human Achievement Hour.  Instead I'll be running all the appliances I can for a useful purpose.  The only difference is that I'll be doing these things at a specific time to "vote" against Earth Hour.

I'll be doing things like ironing and watching HD PVR while tumble drying my clothes, running the dishwasher and charging my phone.  (Yes I'm a riot on Saturday night, but I work in the morning)  After that I'll vacuum and use one of my all time favorite electrical appliances: the Steam Mop.

The Steam Mop uses electricity to turn water into steam and then pushes it out through a reusable fitted pad at the business end.  The steam sterilizes as it cleans so there is no need for sloppy buckets and chemicals.  No chemical smell.  No skin irritation.  No unknown health effects that might take a lifetime of exposure before they surface.  I know I sound like a commercial but that is Human Achievement and environmental intelligence.  That is what its all about.

Earth Hour isn't just a silly symbolic gesture.  Its a holy day for a backwards and anti-human ideology that is more religion than philosophy.  In the darkness the eco-nuts indoctrinate impressionable minds and teach them that good is only found in the absence of human endeavors.  They teach that technology is the source of evil and that light itself is abhorrent.  Earth Hour is not about conservation.  Earth Hour is darkness.

Happy Groundhog Day!

Climate Scientists predict muted Global Warming Hysteria will soon end.  Every February 2nd, alarmists emerge from their holes to see if Global Warming is true.  If they see their shadow they scurry back under ground to ignore the evidence for 6 more weeks.  If its cloudy the alarmist will proclaim he end is nigh and seek funding very soon.

Today, there is no need to test alarmists experimentally in the actual outdoors.  This computer generated model, shown here below, proves without a doubt that Global Warming Hysteria will indeed return to familiar levels.

In fact, it may already be too late.  Governments should immediately shut down their economies and submit to global socialism to save the planet.  The debate is over.  Success is failure.  Only through slavery can one be free.

6,805,733,000 people did not participate in Earth Hour

My post yesterday advising people to ignore Earth Hour was resoundingly followed by the people of Earth.  Through common sense, ignorance, or willful disregard of WWF, the planet spoke with nearly one voice:
We don't give a damn about Natural Climate Change, Global Warming, or your stupid green religion.

Here is a screen capture of the WWF website this evening which shows a tally of all the Earth Hour Supporters.

Notice that they are still receiving supporters after Earth Day.  One wonders when they will cut off the count.  My calculation as to the opponents of Earth Hour are calculated from the US Census Bureau and the above data from WWF.

I do not have a count of the number of people participating in Human Achievement Hour.  My guess would be that there could not have been more than 10,000 people at the very most.   They do stand out though and they will continue to.

That pretty much closes the book on Earth Hour 2010.  If it was a vote, then opponents have pulled a huge upset and now have a mandate to shut down the AGW hoax and its movement.  Even the WWF did not meet its own goal of 1 billion participants and fell far far far short.   That is half of 1 percent of their stated goal.  Rarely do we see failure of this magnitude outside of Climate Activism.

Don't fight Earth Hour

Ignore it.

Like many of you I'm annoyed every year by the eco-religion's official holy days hours and months.  I'm not really annoyed that they want to turn out their lights.  All the power to them.  May they feel spiritually uplifted and cleansed of all their daily eco-sins.  What annoys me is that they want me to convert.  They want me to go out of my way for something I don't believe in because they say it will make me good.

I decide what is good and right, not them.  -Especially not them.

Waste is bad.  Waste is bad for me personally.  It won't save or kill the Earth, but it hurts my wallet.  Matter and energy are always conserved, but finite in size.  Of course I will conserve my resources, I'm Conservative.

This brings me to Competitive Enterprise Institute's Human Achievement Hour or HAH.  Instead of turning out your lights at the command of the "Forces of Darkness", they encourage you to go to a party and have the lights on.

Many people don't think this goes far enough and are planning to turn on all their lights and appliances in symbolic defiance.  They want to outshine all the dismal gloominess of the eco-cult by being the exact opposite: needlessly wasting resources.

I can certainly understand, but this is where I separate from the group.  Its wrong to waste energy, even for defiant symbolism.  Your gesture will be wasted on them.  You cannot win this game playing their rules.  Its a stupid game that is best not played.

The eco-cult has characterized Earth Hour as a vote.  Turning out your lights is a vote for the earth they claim.  This is because all electricity is derived from some form exploitation of the Earths resources.

A communist dictatorship like North Korea doesn't allow votes at all.  Yet a satellite image of the oppressed people suggests that they overwhelmingly support Earth Hour.  Not just during Earth Hour, but every hour.  By eco-rationale, North Korea, is the most forward thinking light-switch democracy in the world.

How many of these "voters"  will be turning off their fridges and freezers during that time?  I'll hazard a guess that none of them will, and even if they did, those appliances would have to work harder to cool down again after Earth Hour.  All for nothing.  Its a complete farce.

If you turn on all your lights, you are inadvertently sending the false message that waste preferable to conservation.  I know what you are really trying to say.  It's all very frustrating.  I know.  The problem here is that you are dancing to a tune called by the eco-cult.  Lights on, lights off, its all just one dance or another.

I'm not doing anything different for Earth day or Earth Hour.  I'm going to do whatever I feel like doing.  This is my day and my hour.  I will not turn out my lights unless I feel like a nap.  I'll not turn on all my lights unless I need light in all those places.  I will not spend any money to annoy either group, though I may spend money to please myself or my friends.

React to the enemy only when it furthers your own objectives.  I encourage CEI and my other friends to ignore Earth days and hours.  A better move would be to perhaps make the following Sunday Human Achievement Day.  Make it the Easter to their Good Friday; something like Thanksgiving.  Don't make it oppose Earth Hour directly but allow people to participate in both events and let them decide which message is the more positive.

May all your hours be positive and productive on this Happy Saturday.

Conspiracy Confirmed: leaked CRU documents show coordinated effort to discredit AGW skeptics.

Wow everybody except the MSM is talking about it. You would think that a fact like all the climate models being wrong would get some attention in the MSM. Nope. Real news passes them by. Why?

Well there is a clue in these leaked emails and other files out of CRU. The same MSM that defamed Catholic priests and made them synonymous with child molesters has elevated climate scientists to sainthood. Their vaunted impartial objectivity is no more. The climate science of AGW is nothing more than PR and now we have the proof. Peer review panels are stacked in favor of AGW. Its a lot like stacking a jury to influence a verdict. Peer reviewed journals are kangaroo courts where only palletable papers are allowed to be published.

I strongly suspect that the reason the MSM keeps pushing AGW is because their editorial boards are as biased as the CRU cranks and possibly worse. If institutions and scientists can be infultrated then what makes the media so impregnable? Nothing! News is not news, its views.

Update: green socialists have been thrown in jail this morning after occupying Environment Minister Jim Prentices office. Terrorists hold lives hostage, while socialists hold property hostage. Thier demands were that Canada sign a treaty that would reduce harmelss CO2 emmissions to 25% below 1990 emmissions.
I've got a better idea. Why don't the green socialists reduce their income to 25% below their collective 1990 average? Oh no that kind of draconian measure only applies to us proles, not to our new lords and masters: the econazis. Hitler started with blackshirts and protests. Stop the green shirts! Time to push back!
