A Threat To The Species

The amount of scientific and industrial illiteracy in so-called mainstream media is staggering some times.

Take CBC for example.  Their best news program is the Lang and O'Leary Exchange.  I watch it regularly as they cover stories that are actually important and O'Leary is always entertaining. 

Not too long ago Dianne Buckner was hosting for Amanda Lang and she got into it Kevin O'Leary about climate change once again.  It was the standard argument, but at one point Buckner stated that climate change was a "threat to the species!"

Hold on.  How so?  Dianne Buckner is a very smart cookie.  How does she go and say something ridiculous on air like that and get away with it?  The Human Species survived the Ice Ages with nothing more than sticks and pelts.  Civilization flourished during the Roman Warm Period and at least the Arabs did well during the Medieval Climate Optimum. It was warmer than today in both instances.  How is climate change in either direction going to threaten our species? 

She has obviously had this idea drilled into her mind over several years.  Its not just her either.  People hear nonsense like climate change is a threat to humanity and don't think twice.  This is the product of social engineering.  People have been socially engineered to except it as dogma and call people who don't agree all sorts of names. The names hurt far less than the fact that smart people will not apply a tiny bit of logic to their accepted wisdom.

Its a dangerous thing too.  Think of the evil done in the name of national security.  How about the evil done in the name of God?  Incredible evil can be done in the name of the species.  Now here we have environmentalists training smart people to think that their destructive tax and obstruction schemes are for the good of the species.  Nuts.

People need to be challenged on these nonsense axioms.  I recommend doing so gently.  Nobody likes to find out they are being stupid.  Reserve your contempt for the people who are terminally so.

CBC gets caught in the Wikileaks crossfire

While successfully embarrassing the US Government Wikileaks has caused some embarrassment to the CBC as well.  John Ivison of the National Post revealed today that the US Embassy in Ottawa believes the CBC to be biased.  Leaked memo's to The White House describe the CBC programming  as “insidious negative popular stereotyping.”

Gee you don't say?  I thought an independent state broadcaster could do no wrong.

The US Embassy quotes go on like an early Christmas present saying that the CBC has “long gone to great pains to highlight the distinction between Americans and Canadians in its programming, generally at our (American) expense.”

To fight the CBC anti-American propaganda the US Embassy recommends that “We need to do everything we can to make it more difficult for Canadians to fall into the trap of seeing all U.S. policies as the result of nefarious faceless U.S. bureaucrats anxious to squeeze their northern neighbour.”

Its good to know that our annual billion dollar bailout for the CBC is put into setting traps for Canadians and pitting us against our closest ally.  How strange to find find that while the White House is publicly at odds with FOX News, its Embassy here in Canada secretly feels the same way about the CBC.

Nothing in the Wikileaks data is new or shattering.  What is new is the independent confirmation of CBC bias by American officials in the action of their office.   They weren't blogging for fun like I am now.  They were doing their job.  They were providing their best information so that Washington could make the best decisions regarding Canada.

Let us finally say once and for all that the CBC has a biased agenda that doesn't necessarily coincide with the best interests of Canada.  They do not deserve special media status, nor do they deserve federal funding or must carry licenses.  Many voices have called on the CBC to change it ways and they have been met with a renewed pursuit of the progressive agenda.

The CBC is unable and unwilling to even acknowledge its bias.  The liberal progressive culture of mass opinion control is so deep and so thick that it should be sold off.  Nothing is more important to them than their narrative.  Facts and opinion are only broadcast when they can be suitably spun to their rhetorical advantage.  They are trying to teach us lessons with programming that are neither true nor helpful to the taxpayer. 

Hopefully, SUNTV can break the monopoly of the left wing media establishment to such an extent that the daily farcical narrative belching from that tax pig the CBC will be widely recognized for what it is: Social Engineering Propaganda.  -Otherwise known as lies and spin. 

How freinds of the CBC describe the CBC

John Doyle is a friend of the CBC.  Its reasonable to assume that he is well acquainted with CBC having written many articles about them for The Globe and Mail.  His insights into that liberal organ this morning were both enlightening and amusing.

Here's some of the best parts:

"The CBC is a bizarre institution, a rats’ nest of ego, bickering, backstabbing, rumour and sour dislike of anyone who either has power inside CBC, or anyone or anything that isn’t part of the CBC. It’s a wonder they ever get around to producing any shows."

and then while talking about some guy who left:

"- he took charge because he was exactly what the place needed – someone strong-willed enough to be dismissive of the CBC’s lazy internal culture."

Lefties love their strong willed dismissive elites.  CBC needs some more of that.  Hahah!

What about The National?

"Months after a makeover, The National is still a farce. The awkward-looking scenario of stand-up anchors, inelegant poses and reporters speaking from giant screens makes the program look like some terrible, cheapo sci-fi movie. The fleeting news “bits” about trivial stories are the very definition of dumbed-down, and even the weather reports delivered by Claire Martin are so irrelevant they have the air of absurdist mini-dramas. Worse, the makeover has not given The National the ratings boost that was hoped."

 I kind of like The National.  I know its weird, but its also the best the CBC can do.  When I want to know what lefties are thinking I'll stream The National. 

These are the problems with the CBC according to Doyle:

"The key ingredient of provocative, challenging television has gone missing. The core problem for CBC in dealing with both its loyal audience and its enemies is that it has to justify its existence to two very different camps. On the one hand, airing ratings hits makes CBC a player in Canadian broadcasting, accumulating ad dollars and viewers. On the other hand, those who expect a public broadcaster to provide what commercial TV cannot are asking, where’s the beef?"

The problem with the CBC are folks like Doyle.  When lefties say "provocative challenging television," what they mean is: smash conservative ideas to smithereens.   Nobody has to watch, they just have to do it.  There's an important mission for a state broadcaster that shouldn't have to bow to pithy concepts like revenue or profit. 

This is all just a right wing propaganda to them.

"Meanwhile, CBC News has been spooked by constant assaults on its integrity by the forces of the right in Canada. The Conservative Party and its allies have done what the minority Conservative government can now avoid doing directly – isolating CBC News as a lefty organization out of touch with Canadians. It’s been deftly done, and CBC has reacted to the point of often appearing embarrassingly eager to over-accommodate right-wing views."

That's rich, but also telling.  The CBC is incapable of improving or adapting along with the country.  They are stuck in Trudeau era Canada and can't get out.  The county has changed under their noses but refuse to accept there is even a bias problem.

I don't remember the CBC ever " appearing embarrassingly eager to over-accommodate right-wing views."  Correct me if I'm wrong please. 

The CBC should get out of politics altogether.  Government institutions like the police, the military or even Canada Post, take taxes from everyone and provide a service to everyone.  How could I support an institution that promotes its own narrow interests at the expense of everyone?  Doyle asks "wheres the beef," but wants everyone to eat it well-done.  Give me blue-rare dammit.  Give me raw facts and let me do the cooking.

The lefty mind believes that  the CPC should be smithereens by now.  The continuing government of Stephen Harper's Conservatives could only mean that the CBC isn't doing its job.  I contend the opposite.  A string of poor leaders and no policy except economic self-flagellation should sink any party.  The surprising resilience of the LPC is due in no small part to the life support given to it by the MSM in general and the CBC in particular. 

People hate spin.  They aren't stupid.  The sooner the CBC stops trying to teach the poor dummies how to think the sooner their troubles will be behind them.

What to do with the CBC? Part 2

Its a simple idea really.  I think the CBC should be broken up into specialized parts.  The French part is already its own separate entity so there is nothing to do there.  I'm working on my largely atrophied French skills and occasionally watch CBC in French.  They seem to be very insulated.  They are a closed community within Canada.  A separate nation, and their CBC reflects that.  What news of the country and the world they get is always viewed through their unique perspective.  They are lucky.  I'd leave it alone.  They have achieved the dream.

The rest of us get centralized machine dominated by active Liberals.  (the French CBC is also predominantly Liberal)  Splitting the CBC into parts would not necessarily reduce the Liberal influence but it would be easier to sprinkle the new headquarters across the country.  Separated from their cliques, their bubble would burst in some areas and concentrate in others.  We could even divide it along lines that already exist.  The new Crown entities would lose the CBC logo but retain their functions, staff and facilities.  New channels would include:

1. News Red (for Liberals)
2. News Blue (for smart people)
3. Sports
4. Education & Documentaries
5. Canadian Arts

Each channel would sink or swim on its own.  Government funding should mirror funding from ads.  The poorer a channel does at attracting viewers the less people it will have until its unable to function and its gone.

How do you think they would react to this plan?  It could involve more funds in total than the original CBC with more employees at first.  If all the channels do well and bring in cash for the people, the shareholders, then we keep them all.  If not, then bye bye sold.

What to do with the CBC?

(this one is for you Strombo)  I have a problem.  I don't believe that News or Entertainment is the domain of government.  I believe in public health care, the Police, Firefighters, the Military, and a whole host of government services that facilitates a free and fair society.  

I could be convinced that the CBC fits into this category.  Chantal Hebert once said that the CBC provides national unity.  She was quite animated when she said it (because she was probably talking to me), but I think she meant specifically that removing the cultural lifeline of the CBC from Quebec would be a disaster for everyone.  I agree.  Its too big to fail, even if it only produces mediocre results on the national unity objective in Quebec. 

So we've established that the CBC is impossible to get rid of and its even sort of useful sometimes.  Should it not be impartial then?  As the effective Ministry of Culture, should they not be as impartial as the RCMP or Revenue Canada?  I mean we pool our money to do all these useful things and then it gets funneled into party politics. 

Don't believe me?  But they are impartial?  Don't wear out your rolling eyes because I have proof.
This night on The Hour, Strombo looked directly into the camera and said "We deserve better."  He said so three times, like some kind of Liberal hypnotist.  You can see him just aching for some kind of traction.  The words are no mistake either.  "We deserve better" is the bastard step child of  "we can do better."  The Liberal slogan that made everyone think: no you can't, you actually suck hard.

I remember on the night before an election the cast of Royal Canadian Air Farce got together and actually said to the camera "vote liberal".  Aren't there frigging rules about that kind of thing?  There should be!  Who decides what show gets aired and when?  Who picks the cast and to what end?  This is where the sinking suspicions about the CBC bias come from.  Say what you will about Mike Duffy, but CTV is still a private entity last time I heard.  They can do and say what they want and they should not get a bail out if they mess it up.  CBC gets a bailout no matter what happens.  The Continual Bailout Corporation (CBC).  Why can't you guys make some money or die like a real business huh?  Can you at least do it fairly then?  I don't see them pleading "vote conservative" on Dragons Den, or "vote green" on Dr. Fruit Fly's show (yet).  And this is just what I've caught in passing and can remember right now.  Imagine what else is out there.

Anyway.  I've got some ideas on how to change the CBC for the better without losing the good things it does sometimes.  More on that tomorrow.


(Note: The government disagrees with me of course.  I have zero say in what goes on in either my party or my government.  I'm just a loud mouth idiot with a talent to complain.  So don't take it out on them please.  Don't take it personal either.  Its my country you're messing with.)
