Conservatives should strongly oppose the Values Charter

Last week in relation to Peekist so-called "Values Charter" Andrew Coyne asked:

What, in particular, will be the reaction of the federal government? Will it defend the rights of local minorities, in the role originally envisaged for it, as it has pledged to do? Or will it do as federal governments have done since Laurier, faced with a determined local majority: shrug and abandon them to their fate?
The answer should be obvious.  Yes we will stand up for minorities.  That is who we are.  It's the right thing to do, never mind it being the law of the land.

The Quebec Values Charter

Lets recap what is going on in Quebec.  The minority PQ or "Pequiste" (we can anglify it as Peekist) are making a cynical play for majority power using the xenophobic prejudices nurtured inside their cultural solitude.

With this charter they plan to expel all religious minorities from the public service that do not comply with their dress code.  Outward displays of religion will be banned, including head scarves, turbans and even subjectively large crosses.

A key point we can all agree on is a unified stance on the Niqab and Burqa.  These are dehumanizing, segregating and misogynistic garments that have no place in our society.  We would not allow hooded KKK goons to openly go about their business let alone work in a hospital or a government agency so garbed.

Could you imagine a police woman in a burqa?
Could you respect or obey such an abomination?

No.  It's now illegal to wear a mask during a protest.  It should also be illegal for police and other public servants to be masked in such a way that their identifying faces are obscured when dealing with the public.

The hijab, on the other hand, is no different than the robes of a Nun or a Mennonite's bonnet.  It may be a tad pretentious to be sure, but the hijab is nothing but a style of scarf.  We should be no more inclined to public enforcement against the head scarf than against short skirts or yoga pants.

My own child was skillfully delivered by a nurse in a hijab.  I don't see what purpose it would serve anyone to have her removed.  The Quebec Charter of Values is as wrong as the PQ itself.

Religious Aparthied

This is not a case of Godwin's Law or Reductio ad Hitlerum.  I'm completely serious in comparing the Peekists to the Brown Shirts over the mundane pejorative sense.  This goes also beyond the trivial similarity between the PQ and NSDAP acronyms being joined to make the words Peekist and Nazi party's respectively.

Ask yourself these 3 key questions that expose fascists:
  1. Is the PQ Nationalist?  Yes.
  2. Is the PQ Socialist?  Yes.
  3. Is the PQ Racsist?  Yes.
The entire purpose the Values Charter is the disenfranchisement of self identified religious minority's not limited only to Jews but Muslims, Christians, even Hindus and their Bindi adornments.   The Peekists are opening the door to apartheid or worse.  All the ingredients for a Krystallnacht event are present in 2014 Canada.

Tell me it isn't possible and I'll tell you to read up on the tragedy of residential schools right here in our beloved country.  Minorities need to know they are protected from xenophobia by the highest offices and courts in the land.

Of course not all of Quebec culture is about xenophobia any more than its all about corruption.  Southern people will still tell you that the Confederate Flag is merely the flag of The South even though it was flown in a war for slavery.  In the eyes of everyone else, the flag emblazoned on the "General Lee" from the Dukes of Hazard, represents racism and slavery.  In a similar vein the Swastika once represented peace.  Sorry, not anymore.  This awful and evil Values Charter threatens to do the same to the symbols of Quebec.

Are proud Quebecers really so eager to lace their culture with the stench of intolerance like the Southern States?  It seems to me the unique culture of Quebec is threatened more by the racist Peekists than by any competing culture.

Strategy

The Quebec Values Charter reportedly enjoys overwhelming support.  I can't imagine its supporters include many Conservative voters.  A strong and sensible position against the niqab and burka should inoculate the Conservative party against any blow back from opposing the Values Charter.

In any case there isn't much to lose.  Conservative support in Quebec is notoriously soft.  Ironically this frees the government to do what is right irregardless of electoral consequences.  We might even gain some support in Quebec.  Minorities will look to the steady strength and sobriety of a Conservative government as the best defense from Peekist zealots.

And what of the hard won immigrant and minority Conservative vote in the rest of Canada?  What kind of loyalty can we expect from them if we timidly throw their friends, family and fellow ex-patriots to the wind?

The Harper Government has an obligation to oppose the Values Charter.  Blunt and direct statements to the effect should be continued.  The Government should deploy the Office of Religious Freedoms to study the Values Charter and voice its very strong support.  The irony that the Office was created to protect religious minorities in other countries won't be lost on anyone.  The Courts will also have a role to play and they should also have the vocal support of the government.  The people of Quebec should be under no illusion that if the Bureaucracy and Judiciary fail to protect minority's, new federal laws will be passed to ensure the freedom of every Canadian Citizen.

400 Million More Reasons to Forget About Climate Change

At this time of deficits economic woe our government is giving away $400 Million dollars to appease Climate Change (or something).  A dead theory, Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW) is all at once, natural, unstoppable and random.  The solutions for this idea range from idiotic to criminal to treasonous to explicitly evil.

My concern today is with the idiotic expenditure of Taxpayers funds on CAGW.  $400 Million dollars is something of a magic number.  It happens to be the estimated cost of a proposed Arena in Quebec City.  The arena is a want not a need.  The city and her people are doing just fine without it.  Though its still a want, the city would rejoice to have it.  There are even minimal stimulus effects that are real.

The $400 million that we are sending to dictators and who knows where else does absolutely nothing for Canadians.  Nothing!  We give away a stadium just like that.  We pay tribute to the green legion that isn't even honoured.  They attack Canada constantly.  They must be destroyed not fed.  What are they going to do about it anyway?  Hang from a bridge and unfurl a sign?  Oh dear me.  Not that.

Liberals will just say 'lets buy both'.  Only the little people will have to pay.    Conservatives like me will say 'lets buy neither' so the little people can thrive.

We have to come to a compromise that does the most good for the most Canadians.  If I can bend my ideals to accommodate others than the socialists can compromise too.  Lets build this stadium and put a stop payment on the green tithe.  In return for a majority I think its a fair deal.

Quebeckers need to realise that we don't have unlimited resources.  The green agenda wants to further limit our resources.  If they want their stadium bad enough, then a little treaty shouldn't be a big problem.  I don't think its an appropriate use of tax money but at least there is some marginal benefit to Canada in building an arena.  At least its an asset with the potential of indefinite revenue.

$400 million thrown into the wind for foreign green nonsense benefits nobody not even the greens.

Of course every city is going to want a new stadium now.  Carve it directly out of the green budget and I'll support it.  We seem to be able to recognize public funding of Stadiums as unfair tax gluttony but not useless green payoffs every party seems inclined to cough up.

The Most Regulated Province In Canada.

Quebec?  I don't have time to write this article but I certainly would like to read it.  Which province has the most regulations and red tape?  My guess is Quebec though I only have anecdotal evidence to back up my perception.  Is there a measure we could come up with to fairly compare provinces and cities in terms of the legal hoops businesses have to jump through?  Can we measure government intrusiveness into our personal lives?

This should contrast nicely with Maclean's front page expose that Quebec is the most corrupt province in Canada.  Critics have said that there hasn't been a fair comparison between other provinces, so lets compare them.  I would also like to see a measure of corruption.  How corrupt are our cities and provinces and how do they compare to each other?

My Guess is that Quebec will win both distinctions.  Most corrupt and most regulated may very well correlate to each other.  More ridiculous rules mean more people will not care to follow them.  This could breed a culture of backroom under the table dealings that don't stop at small time rule braking.  If you want people to follow the law, the law had better make sense.

Call it gateway corruption.  It starts with some ridiculous ordinance that is selectively enforced and it ends with cash stuffed envelopes.

This is my theory.

Any enterprising journalists or bloggers care to test it?  If you don't you'll have to wait until I get around to writing it myself.  Please be fair.  I love Quebec and I don't want her unfairly tarnished.  Its important to acknowledge a problem if you want to solve it.

Meanwhile the Bloc strong armed parliament into a bill outside parliament's jurisdiction.  Free speech is not negotiable no mater what the HRC or the HOC thinks.  Sad and pathetic.  Would they do this for Alberta?  I think not.  Alberta should not be spared either.  Everyone should say what they have to say and its the merit and logic and veracity of those statements that shall be judged.  Its not important how offensive a statement is.  Its only important that it is true or false.

I will be renewing my subscription Maclean's now as well.  They need the money to fight for free speech.  I let my subscription lapse through the summer but its time to renew.  Get your copies here.

A Short History of Corruption

Jean Charest appointed a former Supreme court Justice to the inquiry today.  This Judge, Michel Bastarache, was never appointed previously by Quebec and is therefore a little more trustworthy.  The inquiry seeks to expose weather revelations made by Marc Bellemare are true.  The former Justice minister, turned whistle blower, has claimed in several interviews that party bagmen pressured the government to appoint Judges they requested.  He also claims to have witnessed illegal cash donations made by the construction industry.

Corruption has a long history in Quebec.

Recall Brian Mulroney's Airbus scandal.  The former Progressive Conservative Prime Minister proved too slippery for the multiple investigations into that matter.  For reasons unknown Mr.Mulroney received a cash stuffed envelope from Karlheinz Schreiber.  Most people have had enough of this little mystery.  They have concluded that Mr. Mulroney was probably a crook, and that the extinction of his party is enough punishment for one politician anyway.

Then came the Liberals under Jean Chretien.  The scandal was called Adscam or the Sponsorship Scandal.  Money was paid to ad agencies for no work and then donated into the Liberal Party.  Approximately 100 million dollars was lost by the taxpayer, some of it only to damage taxpayers further by ending up in Liberal Party hands.  The Liberals promised to pay the money back, but as with all Liberal promises, they have not been honoured.

Now we hear of more scandals at the provincial level.  Jean Charest was once leader of the same party Brian Mulroney led.  Will he be able to stay above suspicion?  Is he as unflappable and Paul Wells once claimed him to be?

He may yet escape, but his party will feel the judgment of the voter.  They are rightfully peeved already about large tax hikes.  Peeved enough to storm the Finance Minsters office and protest in the thousands.  The 77% disapproval of Jean Charest before this newest scandal will surely get worse.
